1"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up someotherway, he is 1a thief and a robber.
2
"But he who enters by the door is 2a shepherd of the sheep.
3
"To him the doorkeeperopens, and the sheephear3his voice, and he calls his ownsheep by name and 4leads them out.
4
"When he putsforthall his own, he goesahead of them, and the sheepfollow him because they know5his voice.
5
"A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know6the voice of strangers."
6
This7figure of speechJesusspoke to them, but they did not understandwhat those things were which He had been saying to them.
7
SoJesussaid to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am8the door of the sheep.
8
"Allwhocamebefore Me are 9thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.
9
"10I am the door; ifanyoneentersthrough Me, he will be saved, and will go* in and out and findpasture.
10
"The thiefcomesonly** to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they 11may havelife, and have it abundantly.
11
"12I am the goodshepherd; the goodshepherd13laysdown His life for the sheep.
12
"He who is a hiredhand, and not a 14shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolfcoming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolfsnatches them and scatters them.
13
"He flees because he is a hiredhand and is not concernedabout the sheep.
14
"15I am the goodshepherd, and 16I know My own and My ownknow Me,
15
even as 17the Fatherknows Me and I know the Father; and 18I laydown My life for the sheep.
16
"I have19othersheep, which are not of thisfold; I mustbring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become20oneflock with 21oneshepherd.
17
"For thisreason the Fatherloves Me, because I 22laydown My lifeso that I may take it again.
18
"23Noone has taken it away from Me, but I 24lay it down on My owninitiative. I haveauthority to lay it down, and I haveauthority to take it up again. 25Thiscommandment I received from My Father."
19
26A divisionoccurredagainamong the Jewsbecause of thesewords.
20
Many of them were saying, "He 27has a demon and 28is insane. Why do you listen to Him?"
21
Others were saying, "These are not the sayings of one 29demon-possessed. 30A demoncannot*open the eyes of the blind, can he?"
Jesus Asserts His Deity
22 At that time the Feast of the Dedicationtookplace at Jerusalem;
23
it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of 31Solomon.
24
32The Jewsthengatheredaround Him, and were saying to Him, "Howlong* will You keep us in suspense*? If You are the Christ, tell us 33plainly."
25
Jesusanswered them, "34I told you, and you do not believe; 35the works that I do in My Father'sname, thesetestify of Me.
26
"But you do not believebecause36you are not of My sheep.
27
"My sheep37hear My voice, and 38I know them, and they follow Me;
28
and I give39eternallife to them, and they will never*perish; and 40noone will snatch them out of My hand.
29
"My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and noone is able to snatch them out of the Father'shand.
32
Jesusanswered them, "I showed you manygoodworks from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"
33
The Jewsanswered Him, "For a goodwork we do not stone You, but for 43blasphemy; and because You, being a man, 44makeYourself out to be God."
34
Jesusanswered them, "Has it not beenwritten in 45your 46Law, '47I SAID, YOU ARE GODS '?
35
"If he called them gods, to whom the word of Godcame (and the Scripturecannot* be broken ),
36
do you say of Him, whom the Father48sanctified and 49sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, '50I am the Son of God '?
37
"51If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
38
but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe52the works, so that you may know and understand that 53the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
39
Therefore54they were seekingagain to seize Him, and 55He eluded their grasp.
40
And He wentaway56againbeyond the Jordan to the placewhereJohn was firstbaptizing, and He was stayingthere.
41
Manycame to Him and were saying, "WhileJohnperformedno57sign, yet58everythingJohnsaidaboutthisman was true."
